Weight lifting itself burn a few calories... not enough to make a huge difference. However, having muscle burns a heck of a lot of calories. The more muscle you build, the more calories you will burn.

Depends on the program. Circuit training will definitely burn caloriee. Increasing muscle mass burns for calories too. AND when you are in better shape, being physically active is easier, so you'll burn more there too.
