I have had a lot of trouble finding any info on how many calories I, as a 4'11, 27yr old "athlete" who weighs about 107 should be taking in. For the past year, I've been trying to take in 1000-12000 calories a day. I am a pretty avid runner (participate in races, etc.), but have always had an extra little layer of fat that I just can't get rid of and muscles that just won't develop (especially upper body). I just recently started p90x and the only thing I don't like about it so far is that they say you should add 600 cals a day to compensate for the level of activity, but I know that I'm not burning as many calories as the average person is because I'm so little and the idea of eating 1600 cal/day, even in good protein-carb proportions a)seems impossible and b)seems excessive, but I'm also worried about not eating enough to get my body to where I want it to be. p90x so far is really handing it to me, but I also think I have a naturally slow metabolism and can't afford that many calories. Any advice?

How often do you eat? I have a slow metabolism and if I eat small meals more often my body seems to handle that better. I also eat a little more protein in proportion, because then I don't feel bloated, and I'm not as hungry as I would be on carbs.

i am 5'1".....and eating 1600 calories a day is not as bad as you think..its WHAT you eat in that 1600 calories ;) and if your staying active with a weight training/cardio routine it shouldnt be a problem at all :)

I used to be afraid to eat more than the bare minimum, but your body adapts and actually likes the *fuel* you give it...thus increasing your metabolism and so on..so dont be afraid to EAT!!!
