Hey I need a solid bench press plan. I'm trying to bench over 200 before I turn 15. I'm 14 now I have 108 days to increase my bench by 45 lbs, and I don't know if it well be hard or not.:)-------------- *RAWR* |

why is that so important? it's the least useful lift out of the big lifts....why not instead focus on deadlifting, squatting, standing overhead pressing, chin ups, bent over rows...cleans, etc....learn proper form and use moderate weights....

I don't know its the most bragged about where I'm from. I guess. I just want a good bench, and I also do other things, but I'm about getting stronger to be tough as fighting, and that. -------------- *RAWR* |

Well, if stronger is what you're after, go for what Menace posted....-------------- I see the words you are typing, but all I read is *click*click*click* Fat loss isn?t under the control of the magic fat loss fairies. - Alwyn Cosgrove |

If you're trying to get stronger to fight, bench press isn't going to do as much for you as a strong set of legs and back would.
But if bench is what you want then don't bench more than twice a week, one of them being a heavy day. Stick with low sets of 1-5 on the heavy day and make sure that you do at least 5-6 sets. Light day take a much lighter weight and try to press it as fast as you can up. |

Instead of getting stronger for fighting, you should put your efforts towards learning how to fight (if you are doing it for sport). The reason I mention this, is because anyone that thinks the bench press is a good indicator of punching power clearly is misinformed.
The bench press seems to be the most bragged about indicator in the United States. I'm not sure why. It's not even a good indicator of strength. And no one cares overseas. My advice would be to move out of the country. Then you can focus on the power clean and squat. -------------- SQUAT MORE ~Jesse Marunde Mortal by birth. Strongman by the grace of god. Do a fit buddy search for it. There has been great discussion on the movement and proper execution.

Yeah.. I know that i can bench 200 pounds and i am 14.. but if you want to focus on increasing your bench the most this is what you need to do... dont only focus on your chest.. Focus on your Shoulders.. and definately your triceps too.. if you only work your chest and you arent getting any gains. that might be your problem.. cause when i was 13 i wanted to bench more but i was stuck at 150 pounds.. and i found out Hey duh.. you need to work your shoulders and triceps.. and by the end of 2 months i could put up 195 pounds.. so look for some good tricep and shoulder workouts while still focusing on your chest

To make huge gains in your chest? Here is what I did. I started out with the highest possible weight that I knew I could do 4x8 on your own, for me it was 185. Then every 2-3 weeks I would add on a 2 1/2. Which is 5lbs more during the cycle.
My rule of thumb is to always get a lift off because you use a lot of energy getting the weight off and make sure your spotter never touches the bar unless it is absolutely necessary. Try that out and see how it works. Also workout your legs. You will see gains everywhere from doing legs. At least that is what I have experienced -------------- 1/10/07 Currently: 6\'2 220lbs Bench: 280 4x8 Max: 350 Incline: 230 4x8 Max: 290 Leg Press: 810 4x15 Try Not, Do or Do Not, There is No Try |
