Hello,
I am 30 year old woman (5' 4" 155 pounds) and after being pregnant for 2 out of the last 4.5 years I am dieting and excersing for the first time in my life! I used a health calculator to find out how many calories I need to consume to lose 2 pounds per week while excersising 30 minutes 3-5 days per week (1231). My question is I've heard that walking (on a treadmill) for a few minutes then running off and on for a minute for 30 minutes is best. Also, someone reccomended that I use a protein shake once a day (something I know nothing about) as part of my 1200 calories, and advice? What will it do? Thanks for reading.

Wecome to FT! What you may be speaking of is HITT, where you work out at a good, heart working intensity and then bump it up a notch consistently for a good 45 seconds to 2 minutes starting out and then drop it back down to your normal workout range, keep doing this throughout the workout. As far as a protein shake, you can easily eat instead of drinking something that may not really get rid of the grumbles your stomach may belt out at you and cause you to run for the refrig, keep fresh salad on hand, etc. anything that will keep the calories/fat/bad carbs out and the good stuff in! I eat 4-6 small (meaning small in calories/fat/bad carbs) meals a day, I am rarely hungry and it beats drinking shakes for meal replacements, now if you are drinking the shake to give you protein due to a weight workout routine, I drink 1/2 when I start my workout and the other 1/2, 1/2 way through and keep a lot of water nearby at all times.
