:) Hello my name is Tara and I am 27 years old. I have been over weight for what seems forever. I remember when I started to gain the weight I was 7 years old and I got hurt and every one kept on feeding me junk at that time I did not know any better but now I do. It just seems so hard to get out of an old habit and start a new one. I just got married in October, to the most loving man that I have ever met, who loves me for me and that does not want to change me for anything in the world. I am doing this totally for me and no one else and I can?t wait to get started.
My fitness goals are to lose 100lbs. I lost all the weight I wanted to loose during my last year of high school but it came back with in the following two years, I know now that it was because I went back to my old ways. I found out that I have some heath problems that are caused by being over weight (I am a borderline Diabetic and I have polycystic ovarian disorder, and lets through in as little bit of high cholesterol I know it is not a laughing matter but everyone needs a little humor in their lives which can/are both caused by being over weight) and to tell you the truth it opened up my eyes to trying to get fit and healthy again. I am only 27 years old just married and would like to start a family some time in the near future but I have a feeling that if I don?t loose some weight my future may not be as long as I would like it to be. I will add more as my progress progresses. :) |

Welcome tara. You will find a lot of information and support on this site. It sounds like you have a lot of motivation and are ready to start. Good for you. Just remember to take it slow at first, if you plan to go to the gym 6 days a week, cut out all junk food and eat only brown rice and vegetables you are more likely to burn out and fall off the wagon. Baby steps. You can do this. Best of luck to you. :)

amyksmith76 is right. Take it slow at first, and ask LOTS of questions. People usually burn themselves out at the beginning because they don't know any better. The more you know, the more effectively you will lose the weight. And you are right as well tarakdick, taking charge right now is the best time to do it. Think about all of those people who just skate into their late 30's or 40's and they find out that they have tons of health problems and have to diet and work out or die. I don't know of anyone who actually wants to be there!
Anyway, welcome aboard, you've found a great community to interact with! |

============
Quoting from amyksmith76: if you plan to go to the gym 6 days a week, cut out all junk food and eat only brown rice and vegetables you are more likely to burn out and fall off the wagon. Baby steps. ============= I know what you ara talking about. I am starting off slow, I go walking twice every day and do some cardio in the morning every other day for no, Not too much. I also believe that you have to keep your mouth happy to keep you happy. I am not saying that I will keep on eating all the junk food, what I am saying is that if you cut it all out first thing then you are more likely to fail and fall back to the way you were. I cut my self down to a treat on friday night only if I feel that I worked for it. And the "junk food" that I eat is not really that bad its not as if I sit there and eat a whole pint of ice cream or eat several candy bars or chips I am not really into all that. I do like ice cream but not as much as I used to so the was cut out all together. ============ Quoting from returnofplex: Take it slow at first, and ask LOTS of questions. Good plan Tara. It sounds like you are on the right track. I agree with you about keeping your mouth happy. I have to admit that I pack my lunch and snacks every day, I eat 5-6 small healthy meals a day. But, I also know that I have a weakness around 3:00 and crave chocolate. Not sure why, and have tried to do everything to get it under control. You know, a piece of fruit instead, 2:00 protien, etc. Nothing kicked it, which was making me splurge. So, now I just accept my weakness and pack myself two hershey kisses that I'll eat around 3:00 if I'm craving something. It's enough to kick the craving, not enough to kill my healthy lifestyle. It's no good to be a nazi about it, and I gotta have my kisses. ha ha.

Amysmith76, what you are doing with the chocolate is perfect! People see the word "diet" as a four letter word too often. MODERATION is a far better idea. If you like chocolate,...go for it, as long as you count it in with your daily calories!
Tara, it sounds like you're off to a great start. |

Absolutely right returnofplex. Although, in our house, "diet" IS a four letter word that I don't allow anyone to say. At least in the context of "I can't eat that, I'm on a diet". Growing up my mom was on a perpetual diet, although I never really understood her strategy. I know that it consisted of a few pickles here and there, an ounce of measured potato chips for dinner and some carrot sticks, making sure to only eat one meal a day in the late evening, then she would chow down on the weekends because "no one can be healthy all the time". No exercise either. I realize now why she never lost weight! I consider what I eat to be a part of my healthy lifestyle, not a diet. Thus the reason for the chocolate, if I had to imagine the rest of my life without chocolate I think I would die! ha ha.
Keep up the good work tara. |
