I will be working out 5 times per week 45 mins cardio and weights, with a program i have just got off here.

Absolutely. Protien will help add lean mass to your body. Adding muscle to your body not only helps to shape your figure in a desireable way, but it also increases your resting metabolic rate. That means you burn more calories when you are doing nothing (or when you are doing exercise).
Keep in mind, most protien powders are low calorie as well. A whey protien with 25g of protien will have between 100 and 125 calories.
Also a slight warning; when you start training with weights, you body adds muscle mass which weighs more than fat, so your weight will most likely go up a bit in the early goings. This is good weight though, and you will find that the pounds will start dropping off shortly after.
Good Luck!

So can you tell me, should i drink it pre or post workout?

There is research both ways on this. I would generally say post WO is more important, however, I would recommend pre and post. If you want to keep your caloric intake low, you could have a 1/2 scoop pre and a full scoop post. That would be about 150 calories or so, and would provide muscle building aminos and keep your metabolism raised.

so how does muscle weigh more than fat?
I thought 1lb =1lb?

Honestly just starting out, I don't think your at the level to need a protein supplement.I think you just wasting your money.
Eat a good healthy meal afterward IMO.

Exactly BigA one LB is ONE LB. The difference is that fat takes up more room. Think of it this way: Fat is like a 5lb bag of potaos......Muscle is a 5LB bag of sugar. Both weigh the same but the spuds take up a lot more room.

but it was all that i could afford
now shes mine all mine

and i never wanted nothing more

Thats my favorite way to look at fat and muscle....and it is so true.
so your weight may stay the same...but your body will be smaller...and fit in your clothes better.
I take a protien shake to keep my calorie intake up..to make sure I am getting in enough...and protien is hard for me to just eat...so the shake keeps my numbers where I want them to reach my goals.
