My name is Peter, and I am horribly out of shape. I have been playing an online game for about 6 years and need help getting fit. How should I begin getting in shape. I have no idea where to begin. Anyone care to help me out :)

Hi Zezima. Unplug yourself, get up from the computer (except to visit Freetrainers of course) and get moving. Look around this site, you will find a lot of useful/helpful information. Welcome.

Like you, I was very much in front of a computer so while I was sitting there, I started cruising the web for places that might help me. This site has proven the best for both an exercise program and for keeping track of what I eat. It's important for you to have a goal - even a small one like get up once a day and go for a walk, whatever you can manage. You can also consult with your doctor to see what they recommend. Food is easy, avoid everything you really love except for one thing. Give yourself permission to eat one 'bad' food occasionally. If you deny yourself too much, that one item could save you. Consider it a reward for doing well after one week...month...year. I hope this helps and good luck. Post a picture when you're down to your target weight.

Hi zezima! This is the primary reason that I don't play online games. Out of all of my friends that try to get me to play, 100% of them have gotten terribly out of shape from the sedentary nature of these games. In the real world, it really doesn't matter how cool your WOW character is, because it's just some polygons and sprites on a computer monitor.
You should check out some of the fitness plans on this site for starters. Being healthy doesn't mean having to kill yourself with cardio and resistance training. In fact, depending on your frequency, it's not out of the question to say that your gym visits could end up being less than a half hour each.
You really need to watch your diet though. Find a base metabolic rate calculator online to get a rough idea of the amount of calories you need to be eating per day. Diet is the the difference between ok results and great results.
Oh, and don't cut out the gaming if you really love it, just make it play second fiddle to fitness. And don't let it be the reason for a pizza dinner instead of something much healthier.
