I've heard that the first 3 hours right after working out are elemental to gain the nutrients and proteins the body needs to recover and develop well. Is that true? And what type of meals are suggested after a workout?

Within an hour of lifting you want o get some fast absorbing protein - whey protein supplement is the asiest way to do this.
Opinions vary on post-workout nutrition, but is has been discusssed a hellalot here - do a fit buddy search, I am sure you will find lots to read.
An hour after having a protein shake, have a meal consisting of carbs and protein.
-------------- Accept your limitations and they are yours.
