i am doing the 12 week ab program. so far it consists of crunches, leg lifts and ab twists. i can definitely feel the crunches and the leg lifts but the twists i can feel anything.
i am sitting up straight and keeping my head forward (i have also tried turning my head). i am twisting as far as i can and trying to tighten the muscle (what little muscle is there) but i still cant feel anything. can anyone give some advise on what i am doing wrong?

practice. This movement should be done slowly and deliberately. Visualize the muscle contracting as it pulls your torso around. Then when you twist the other direction, visualize the other side pulling your torso in that direction.

I don't know. I've always used that movement as a warmup. I never considered it for muscle building and still don't. Instead I tend to use oblique machines or side bends with cable or dumbells for pumping upp those pesky "love handle" muscles. Crunches with twists are also effective.

I don't know if you're doing anything wrong, I'm on my 3rd week of the ab program. When I do the seated twists I use a machine to add some resistance. Not a lot but enough to feel it at the end.

the trick is to do each rep slowly and contract it hard...I used to do 200 reps at a time and feel nothing...now I do about 50 reps/set but keep the tension on each rep.
2 fast notes for obliques: * don't use a lot of weight * avoid broom twists as they have been linked to lower back injuries (long term basis)

I was doing twists this morning and could not feel it more in my upper torso than around my love handles. I worked very slowly and concentrated on each movement, so I am not sure whether they are good for me or not. Also, in a previuos post, back injury was mentioned, and I want to make sure that this does not happen to me. I did use a broom stick as stated in the exercise description. I guess I need to see what happens when I do my second workout. I am also interested in knowing what you decided to do, Kimber26.
