Look in your local used classifieds, or craigslist.

Usually will find some people getting rid of equipment, for alot less than new, and when your going with steel weights, weight is weight imo.

Craigslist and yard sales.

In the next few months will be the cheapest time to find weights all year long. Most people are giving up on their new years and spring resolutions and selling equipment.

As for brands, unless your competing in powerlifting or olympic style weightlifting, a bar is a bar and a lb is a lb.

So sad. But true. My first weight set was a cheapy from Walmart. It came with a bench and weight set and I think was around $89 or something. Like wrestler said, unless you plan to be a pro, weights are weights.
