Hi everybody, I'm about 215 pounds at 5'11 and i used to be jacked at around 185, so thats pretty much my goal weight. I know im suppose to eat 5 meals a day spread out to keep my metabolism going, but the site is recommendin I eat over 3200 calories and to me, i really dont think i'd be losing much weight at that rate, so basically im asking if i should just listen to the suggestion, or if anyone has a more realistic goal...

The calorie suggestions here are way off in my opinion. Use a BMR calculator and figure your ideal calories this way. BMR rate+ activity calories, ie. (250/500/750/1000) = your maintenance calories. Then subtract 500 calories from that number to lose 1 lb. per week. Use your ideal weight to figure your BMR not your current weight. Shoot for a 500 calorie deficit per day but no more than that.

3200 sounds pretty good.
Remember calories are just a guess at first!
If you really think consuming over 3200 of clean foods is too much, cut back more for sure!
I don't think it makes much sense to force feed yourself if you are trying to loose weight.
BMR rate + activity cals. - 500? Come on!
I'm not too fond of BMR calcualtors to tell you the truth.
If I were you I'd skip that idea all together, first it's hard to believe any of the BMR's; they don't consider any factors at all - a one size fits all. Than what? Guess how many calories you are burning each day - 500?
It's like peaking out of a blind fold in a pitch black room.
GOOD LUCK!

I'm gonna have to disagree with sam on this one(no offense). The calorie estimates are high on this site. BMR calculators aren't perfect, but they will give you an idea as to how many calories to consume. If you are trying to get "jacked at 185" again, than you need to create a caloric deficit to lose the weight. A simple way to figure out how many calories you need to consume a day for weight loss, is to multiply your body weight by 10. This isn't absolute, but works pretty well. A more complex way is to use the following (very reputable) formula: (your weight in pounds) divided by 2.2, then multiplied by 24.
Also I'd like to note that depending on how hard core you are in the gym, you may need a few hundred more calories. Just use one of the methods above to get a base to start from. 3200+ calories a day isn't gonna get you where you want to go.

I have no idea about calories, I'd really like to learn more about all the different types of elements in food. I'm about 170, 5'10", but I eat whatever.
