I'm on my 4th weeks of training on the "Gain Muscle Mass Training" program and was asking myself this question. Should i reduce the number of repetition to 12-10-8 instead of the 20-15-10 that the program usually provide. Since i want to gain mass, i know that low reps help better, so why does the program give so many reps?

Thanks

the first set is usually a warm set...just to get the blood flowing...4 the last 2 or 3 sets..just do as much as you can with reasonable weight...

if you are still a beginner, then a high number of reps may be required to get the muscles used to contracting before going on a real blast.

I'm on the 8th week of the same program. Stick with it and to the schedule. It will pay off. I know exactly what you're thinking, I thought similarly, but as tt_rocker put it, the first set is a warm up. Use very low weight. Eventually you'll be doing a heavier warm up first set. You'll see.

So, did you gain much now that you're in your 8th Week?

I'm on my 5th week, and gained 11 lbs so far. But with it, came a little belly fat that I'll have to try losing with situp. Overall, i noticed a small improvement.
