I read somewhere that a wide stance squat will increase the size of your backside. Is this true? What is the difference between the plie squate, wide stance squat, full squat, etc.

I don't know what a plie squat is.

Wide Stance:
More focus on glutes and hamstring compared to close stance.
More forward lean.
Reduces the depth that you can reach.
Usually all lower bar position.

Close Stance
High bar position.
Torso is more upright during the squat.
More quad emphasis.
You can get deeper.

Both squat work glutes, so both will add mass to your ass if you are eating.

The thing to remember is that when the glutes develop they stick farther out. The don't make your ass wider. Also, if you are not gaining weight then your ass is not going to grow.

Wide stance squats tend to work the glutes and ext. hip rotators more than the quads.

Also, with tight hams, you'll be able to keep your torso more upright - always the goal of any squat.

Close stance squats with tight hams will force a kyphotic lumbar spine - potential for disc herniation. If your hams are normal length you'll have many more options for safe squats regardless of stance.
