So this is probably the 9,032,253,032th time (give or take) I've tried to lose weight. I used to be in great physical shape because I played sports all the time. Then came double knee surgeries, back to back, and not being able to exercise for almost 2 years really took it's toll. I packed on the pounds and haven't been able to get them off!!!
I'm trying yet again, and will see how it works out this time around. I'd love to get some "accountability" partners on here who are in the same boat I am, who can email back and forth to keep us motivated and on track!

The good news is that if you used to be athletic, than you'll probably lose the weight quicker, seeing as how you already have a good foundation from which to work. You'll get the best results by attacking your weight from 3 perspectives. First is diet. You have to understand portion sizes and calorie contents. You'll most likely have the hardest time with changing the types of food you eat, but stick with it, and it'll get a lot easier in time. You also should try eating about 10 calories per pound of body weight to start off with. As you lose weight, the number will also decrease.
Second is to get a good strength training program that hits all of the muscle groups at least once per week. I like to split up my groups into three days a week.(a couple of groups, per day, once per week)By building lean muscle mass, you'll burn more calories. And no, you won't look like a body builder unless you go to the extreme, and start taking other substances.
The third is cardio. Do a little moderate cardio after you lift(nothing overly strenuous, maybe 10-20 minutes), and try to do a little more intense cardio a few times a week on your off days. This may sound wacky(putting strength training over cardio) but you'll much more effectively lose weight and keep it off this way.
There it is in a nutshell, feel free to message me for more questions or specifics.
