i got a pretty good sized headache while doing the bench press and i thought nothing of it until i did an arm workout the following day and it came back. it goes away when i stop lifting. i have been lifting for a while now and this has never happened before. i eat before workouts and drink enough water. any ideas on what might be causing this to happen over the last two days?

Get your electrolytes in balance. One of the best things I've found is V8. I drink one about an hour and a half before training.
You may also want to have your blood pressure checked. It gets elevated during a training session. If you have high BP already then the training makes the problem worse. Certain supplements can cause your BP to elevate as well. -------------- --JBennett "I've up-ed my intensity.... now up yours!" "Pain is only weakness leaving the body." The regular V8 tomato juice stuff, or the cool new V8 fusion or splash or whatever?

The tomato stuff. Tons of potassium, sodium, vitamins, and minerals.-------------- --JBennett "I've up-ed my intensity.... now up yours!" "Pain is only weakness leaving the body." "Never think of how weak you are; think of how strong you're going to be." |

ok why do i get the headache at the start of the workout. i do my first set then i get a huge headache. then i take about a fifteen minute break and get back to it and i am fine. makes no sense. its annoying when i want to lift and i end up having to wait for a headache to pass. what am i doing wrong i lift in the afternoon if that means anything.

ok i started to wonder if it was an anurism or something some of my symptoms matched it such as pain around the eye. i did some research and i hope to god its not an anurism. I think it is a exertion headache because it happens only when i exert myself it goes away when i stop working i take a pain reliever wait a while then go back at it and im fine. i now take it before the workout and the headache is mild. i can handle it. the farther into the workout i go the more it disappears. the thing that maid me really think that it is an exertion headache is that it comes fast goes away and then it becomes very mild almost unnoticeable for 4 to 6 hours afterward. i have no plans of a dr visit any time soon no insurance yeah i know anurisms are dangerous. anybody else ever have one i looked back in the (archives) of fit and saw some other people who had the same problem. you know those people that come make three posts and then never post again.

Could be an issue with your shoulder/neck complex. Keep a neutral spine, place a towel roll under your neck and don't allow your shoulders to externally rotate as you press the weight upwards. You could also try doing db presses on a ball.

Forget about diagnosing this on the internet by looking for symptoms. It will make you crazy. Get to a clinic if possible.
The position is very important. Since my car accident, if I turn my head yo the right and stay like that while in any position I get a headache, not only when working out. You may have done something, not knowing. -------------- Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success. Ivan (GO HABS GO!) Montreal Canada (City of Festivals) |

sounds kind of like nerve entrapment/muscle spasm to me, but again, no diagnosing online!
Hope it stays resolved. |
