Pushups are fine, but in order to increase your muscle mass, you need to overload a muscle. This means you need to start weight lifting, and build your strength. This will lead you to lifting heavier weights, and thus increasing the size of your muscles. I recommend starting creating a workout plan on this site to get started.

ummm,....how about increasing your calories in conjunction with the heavier lifting? If you are looking for appreciable muscle mass gains you have to be eating a TON of food. And the cleaner the calories the better.
