Hie friends. i just joined this programme and being a mauritian andnot that big calibre i'm sure that i won't be able to lift heavy weights as you guys can.For e.g right now maximum weights that i can lift as follows:
benchpress - 40kgs total (i.e 20kgs ech side) military press - 20kgs total barbell curl - 20kgs
i strongly doubt whether i can really grow in mass/ muscles with those kinds of weights.
I also tried to enroll for the specialised chest programme and based on my weight/height and other specifications i was supposed to lift 115kgs for benchpress whereas actually i can lift only 40kgs
i would like to have your viewpoint on this issue.
thanks keane

First of all, I want to welcome you to FreeTrainers! I noticed this is your first post. Feel free to ask any question; we're all here to help.
Just start at a weight that you're comfortable with. If you try to over-do it right away, you'll hurt yourself and be unable to attain the goals you have already set for yourself. You will eventually work your way up to 115kgs. Its just a matter of time. Even working with "light" weights can increase endurance, strength, and mass. Consistancy and a strong commitment are more important than how much you can benchpress. Best of luck to you!!

Amen. The old question " how much can you benchpress" is overused. Your view is right on track jben. Consistency, commitment and the right attitude are important. Oh, welcome to FT, keane!! Glad to have you here.

The 115kgs probably includes the bar. From your statement, it seems that you do not count this weight. Follow the other guys advice as well.

I would say lift whatever you can lift right now "WIthout injuring yourself", Then try heavier weights as you get used to the workouts. Good Luck!!!
