I remember listening to the radio one night and a guy said that u should drink and glass of milk straight after pushing weights. I forgot what doing this does. Does anyone know ? Is this a fact or just fiction ?

I don't think its the fact that milk is a protein and it has carbs too. (albeit lactose sugar). It is recommended that you have a protein and complex carb within an hour of working out.

It cannot do you anything bad, milk got lots of calcium in it too. If you don't want to gain weight choose the fat low one.

I always mix my post-workout shakes in milk. The protein in milk is one of the most digestible natural forms of protein available. As said above, the calcium is also very important in maintaining healthy teeth and bones, as well as playing a huge role in the movement of skeletal muscle on the cellular level.

After reading this I started drinking milk after workin out and i think that it helps. I have less soreness and I feel even more pumped up because of the extra protein intake. I drink skim to lessen the amount of fat.

This seems like old school to me.. the protein and carbs in the milk are good for your body after the workout to replenish it and allow it to grow.

What I've been towards the end of my workout, is sipping on a protein shape, and I can feel the difference! I am actually trying to melt off some fat, so I personally stay away from the carbs/sugars in milk though.

Itroisi is right. This was just the best way at the time to get your prot and carbs into your body after the workout before the convienience of what we have today existed. What makes it makes it even better for today's athletes is that by combining your whey protein and carb post-workout meal with milk is that the whey is the quick acting and fast absorbed prot that your body needs immediately after a workout, and the milk provides the long term, slowly aborbed protein that your body needs over the next few hours after trianing. There are many other benefits, too many to list here. Just remember: Mom was right, like the commercial said "Milk does a body good."

And try skimmed milk..... No fat and no extra sugar, so if you're gaining weight krazymatt, it cannot be the fault of milk!!!

Its all about the protein in the milk and that is why it is good. liquid protein gets to the muscles faster than solid protein in meat. that is why drinking a big glass of milk after lifting is great!! give it a try.

But the very best post workout solution is to drink a whey protein shake mixed in water!!!!! This is the fastest way to give the muscles what they need.

I have stopped training for a very long time, So i want to start now, knowing only the basics of training i would to know if there anything else i could do probably b4 heavy training besides bikes and skipping ropes?????
