You're young, start slowly and don't take too heavy. This means for example do 3 times 12-15 repetions. You have to feel your muscles work a little and the last 2-3 repetitions should be a little more difficult than the first ones.
If you can, start with the machines. It's guided weight and maybe it's better for you to begin with.

Finally, maybe you should ask a trainer nearby (or in your gym). They would know a little more about you and therefore would be able to give you better advice.

Welcome in here Paulie!

What type of exercise weight are you talking about? Well....try doing circuit training to start off. Circuit training consists of doing an exercise for one set then to another and another until you have done all of your excercises once. Then do the same thing two more times until you have completed three sets of each excercise. This will help you to develop a simple knowledge of how weight training is and feels. Then as you become more and more advanced you can begin doing hardcore training where you do 3 sets of one excercise and more onto the next and do the same thing.
