Hi, I am a beginner to weight lifting. I am 16 years old,5ft 10in and 135 pounds. I got a free exercise program from this website and have been doing it for about 2 weeks, 5 days a week. I am trying to gain strength and muscle mass. For most exercises the routine calls for 4 sets of 20, 16, 14, 12 reps. Are these high reps the best way to gain muscle mass and strength or should I be doing more weight with less reps? Also if anyone has a good beginner strength and muscle mass gain workout please post it. Thanks for the help!!

For a beginner - it's fine. Stick with it. You need to get your muscles acclimated to the stress of weight training. Once you've been at it for 6-8 weeks you can adjust the weight and rep range to meet your goals. Everyone starts somewhere; this is your start. Do it right.

The 20 reps in the beginning are a warm up set. You should start with a lower weight just to get everything "warmed up" After that I would up the weight and maintain this weight for the 16 14 12
