Hi All,
I'm getting married in August 2009!! YAY!! But I have quite a bit of weight to lose first. I'd like to lose 40-50 lbs, but I'd be content even with 20-30 lbs gone. I have hypo-thyroidism and find it hard to lose weight. I have three children - ages 13, 7, & 4. They keep me pretty busy so it's sometimes difficult to find ME time. I own a treadmill, an exercise bike, and an elyptical machine. I'm off to a pretty good start, I just need to take an hour for myself and get on them. Anyone else out there have hypo-thyroidism and find it hard to lose? Got any secrets to share? |

Welcome to ft :) congrats on your upcoming wedding! I suggest getting some resistance bands or dumb bells and adding weight training into your plan, you will get results faster than just doing cardio.
A circuit routine would be fast and fun. That way you can get your resistance training in and keepyour heart rate up. there is also a no-equipment workout routine here if you go to the top of the page and click on fitness plan or exercise program (sorry, my screen loooks a little different than yours, so I think it is fitnessplan). answer the questions and it will generate a plan for you. Eating to fuel your activities is really a huge part of weight loss and a healthy lifestyle, so read as much as you can and ask specific questions and I am sure you will find help here :) -------------- A man of sense is never discouraged by difficulties; he redoubles his industry and his diligence, he perseveres and infallibly prevails at last. Hi Asimmer,
I have spent a bit of time checking out the different things offered on this site. It's pretty awesome. I hope it'll work for me. I have ZERO willpower! Chocolate is my weakness. I also don't eat as much or as often as I should. I have to take a thyroid pill in the morning when I get up, then I can't eat for at least an hour. By then, I am doing laundry, dishes, etc, and figure I may as well wait til lunch. Some days I manage to eat a little something for lunch, but honestly, most days, I only eat supper. I don't feel hungry at all and the thought of eating turns my stomach. That make sense? I have also tried the "Internal Flush" pills. They helped a bit, but I'm nervous about taking things like that because it says on the box that prolonged use can have negative effects on the bowel. Anyway, I'll try this workout idea (circuit routine) and hopefully that'll help. My sister wants to lose weight too, so we figured we'd start working out together for support. Wish me luck!! Thanx for replying. :) |

Allow yourself a little chocolate every day, if that is your weakness - if you cut out something you realy like completely you will rebel and binge on it. If it fits into your caloric intake, you can have it. The Jorge Cruze (sp?)plan, can't remember the name, oops... includes having 2 mini chocolate bars once a day. that way you don't feel deprived.
Hopefully working out will stimulate your appetite. It really is important to get the food in, it is probably the biggest factor in wiehgt loss. The flush stuff - u are right to avoid it. what can happen is that your bowels start to depend on the product and they stop doing the work on their own to eliminate waste. better just to eat healthy, including lots of fibrous veggies. Fiber will help whisk waste products out of your system. It is great you have a partner in your endeavor! best of luck to both of you! -------------- A man of sense is never discouraged by difficulties; he redoubles his industry and his diligence, he perseveres and infallibly prevails at last. I also have a hypo thyroid. For me I started seeing a holistic doctor once I started with him and taking the supplements that he suggested...things have been going great. I have tons more energy, the weight is starting to come off. Its not falling off by any means but the scale has been a steady decline for about a month now. I dont have much weight to lose though, for me I'm mostly just trying to tighten up and tone up with the hopes of getting rid of no more than 10 pounds.

Thanx Asimmer!! 2 mini chocolate bars would satisfy the cravings, I'm sure. ;)
Tracy, what is a "holistic doctor" and what supplements did he suggest? If you don't mind my asking. My doctor put me on synthroid to control my hypo-thyroidism, but hasn't done squat for my weight. My doctor suggested I go to water aerobics if I wanted to lose. I am not a swimmer, and I do have a bit of fear of the water, but I started going to aquasize classes 3 times a week. It was working wonders! At first, there were only 10-15 people attending the classes, then the classes became so popular that there'd be 30-40 people going. It was too many people in the pool at the same time, and quite a few people stopped going because of it, including me. So now I'm back to trying it on my own again. This site has been soooooooooo helpful and so informative. I'm so glad I found it. ============ Quoting from jredsmom: I also have a hypo thyroid. A holistic doctor is someone who uses non-invasive and non-pharmaceuticals to heal.
The supplements I'm on are many because of all the other health issues I have. I don't remember nor can I find my papers that told me which supplement is for what. I'm 38 yrs old and in good health but suffered a heart attack last year. So I'm on a supplement to help my heart, I had no sodium in my body so I'm on a iodine supplement, the hype-thyroid problem on something, my iron was real low so I'm on iron supplement, my body was also lacking many natural vitamins and minerals that the body is suppose to produce so I'm on a few different vitamin supplements. I also found out that I'm allergic to cow's milk and he said that was playing a pretty big role in my stomach issues (was never in any type of pain) but apparently my body doesn't digest cow's milk. I've been seeing him about 8 months maybe 10 months things have improved, I feel better, have tons more energy and I've lost a few pounds. I've worked and worked to get even 2 pounds off, now its not as tough. Most medical doctors look at holistic doctors as quacks. I look at most medical doctors as pill pushers or leagalized drug dealers. I switched cardiologist because he was so against me seeing a holistic doctor. I thankfully on my first try found a wonderful cardiologist that is willing to work with me AND work with my holistic doctor. My appointment with the cardiologist is today and we are working to get me off the Plavix that I've been on for a year. I'm so excited to be getting off the Plavix! Good Luck, tracy |
