It is time for me to change my workout and was wondering, does close grip bench work more for the pecs or for the triceps. I currently have it on tricep days. Is this alright or change it???

the close grip is a wonderful excercise, tho it may b a little awkward for someone who hasnt done it before. what muscle it works (including the delts!) depends mainly on 2 things: the grip and the position of your elbows.

for example - if you do it w/a reverse grip w/elbows in, it hits your tri's more. a regular grip w/ elbows out hits more of the pecs. depending on what ur trying to do, the best thing to do is experiment w/ an empty bar to really focus on the body part u want to work.

sorry this may be a stupid question but i dont know if i fully understand. So if i grip the bar like a normal bench press this works the pecs but if i turn my hands around so my fingers are facing my head that is more triceps???

When I do close grip bench presses, I feel that the muscles being worked are more the forearms, triceps and delts. My close grip is normal and the space between my fingers is around 6-8 inches. You also can't go too heavy on these.

.. I prefer to go heavy for these.. it is a great compound basic movement and is great with heavy poundages from slapping on some real tricep size.

Good Luck..

yes.. good point.. your elbows should touch your sides as you go down.. and also be sure to go high on your chest.. not the bottom of it. This will focus more so on triceps rather than front deltoids.

I use the EZ bar for comfort, a straight bar is very restricting for the wrists....

if you keep your elbows out then it works your inner chest, but if you keep your elbows close to your sides then it works your triceps.
