Can anyone advise me on a tricep exercise to mainly develop the lateral head of my triceps? I've noticed that the long head is more developed....If anyone has the same problem i would like to hear from you.....thanks |

Ok i'm most likely wrong but I don't think you can target specifically the lateral head.. if this -> http://www.exrx.net/Muscles/TricepsBrachii.html is what you mean... You can do a lot of different heavy compound movements to help develop that area.. look under ft's muscle targeting section.. something like barbell tricep extensions and lying tricep extensions might work.. and try to make sure your elbow doesn't wobble around too much if at all when doing tricep movements... |

Doesn't the cross face tricep extension target this? -------------- And my soul must be iron, because my fear is naked. I'm naked and fearless. |

I can see how cross face tricep extension would be a good exercise, but I don't have access to a cable machine that I can do them with, I can do the the cable push downs though. I would like to develop the tricep so that when I tense it, the lateral head is clearly visable as well as large.. |

I actually do the cross face with dumbells. It's a little strange putting your face in a postion to get crushed like that but.. -------------- And my soul must be iron, because my fear is naked. I'm naked and fearless. |

I've been told by a bodybuilding friend of mine and his trainer that my triceps/biceps are the best developed they've seen in a while. I take that with a grain of salt because I still want MORE! I rarely do the pressdowns, but if you do , try them seated at an incline. This method will not allow you to cheat at all. Great isolation excercise. My favorite excercise of all, though, is the skullcrusher. These are also called the lying tricep extensions, but what fun is that; skullcrusher is just is just a cool name for an excercise. Use the EZ curl bar when doing these to reduce the strain on your wrists. When you perform this excercise, DO NOT lock out with you arms perpendicular to the floor and the bar over your chest! This takes the tension off of your triceps. I lock out with the bar above my eyes/forehead to stress the concentric part of the excercise. Keep your elbows in and lower the bar to the crown of your head, not the forehead. You can change your grip (wide or close) to hit different heads to the tri's, but I prefer about a 6 inch grip. I'm willing to bet in just about a month to a month and a half, you'll be loving your new triceps!! -------------- --JBennett "I've up-ed my intensity.... now up yours!" I'm still not satisfied with how I look. I wanted to post pics as soon as I hit the 200lb mark. But, if I can get access to a digital camera sometime soon, I'll post some pics. As for now, I'll remain shrouded in mystery. ;) -------------- --JBennett "I've up-ed my intensity.... now up yours!" "Pain is only weakness leaving the body." |
