Hi, everyone. I am liking what I see here so far. My only message board experience is as an admin of a state-wide high school sports forum. I have always been into wellness/athletics, but in the past 9 weeks, I've fallen in LOVE with weight-lifting. That has brought fresh fire for me. I'm about to be 47, but super-healthy and active. I love a personal challenge and right now, I'm trying to break a plateau at 19% body fat. Do any of y'all (yes, I'm from the south) know much about HIIT? I'm very intrigued by what I'm reading and want to know more.

Ahh! Another country bumpkin:) I'm from Middle Georgia.
HIIT is bad ass. Out of forms of cardio I've tried (tabata squats, HIIT sprints, jogging, long hikes) 2 miles of HIIT sprints imo strips fat way better than the rest. Plus it's quicker than joggin or hiking and won't make u want to lay on the ground and question life like tabata. It really is great. Piece of advice I picked up from bb1. When u've been dieting too long and hit a plateau it's usually because of hormone fluctuations due to being in caloric deficit too long. He advised me to pig out(well 500 over maintenance) for a month then get back to my diet. I took his word and tried it and he was absolutely right. Works like a charm:) |

Well, howdy! And thanks. I've done my homework as far as reading up on HIIT was hoping to hear from those who've used it. "Bad ass" sounds good to me. I love stretching limits. What you said about dieting makes sense, but do you have any words of wisdom regarding fat loss? I'm not trying to lose weight, just fat. As I said, I'm plateaued at 19%. I'm eating very few fats and mostly low GI carbs.
Also, did HIIT replace your cardio work, or just act as a hyper suppliment? |

:) I'm glad I could help.
HIIT became a big part of my cardio work. I don't know if I would say it replaced it. I would rather hook up with some friends and play tennis over running laps. But..HIIT is definitely quick and effective which makes it a very useful tool. You've got a bangin little body but to get ripped like ur trying to get that diet isn't gonna cut it. It might work for someone who just wants to be healthy but u're a bodybuilder now;) Here's an article that explains why: http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance_science/the_leptin_manifesto |

Wow, the more I learn, the more I don't know! It's a lot less complicated to just not care, but I can't do that. And thanks very much for the compliment. I do want to build muscle. I used to focus on staying "slender" but lately, I'm really into female muscle definition (though I'm not into women!) I just admire a physique that shows work has been applied. Oxygen mag has ruined me.

Hiit will kick your butt and burn off the calories. As with all forms of exercise, variation is the key. Do it on a bike for a while then change to a different machine, then rub/walk etc. -------------- I would have a million dollars now if only I had only followed CNBCs advice...and I had started with a hundred million dollars. Wow did this take a turn! Another Canadian here....
HIIT on the bicycle is great and easy to acomplish. Get the HR up and coast, repeat segments every 2-3 min and the Heart is having a blast. Good luck with it. Charlie when you typed the wor (you know the word eh?) it set an alarm off in the Fusion! -------------- Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success. I appreciate the input. I started HIIT on the treadmill yesterday. I got 6 intervals in 20 minutes, not couting warm-up and cool-down. It felt good. I'll gladly trade 45-60 minutes a day in cardio work for 20 minutes 3 times a week. I'm still doing weights, of course. I have a fav new move. Skull-crushers. Give me a few weeks, then... arm wrestle, anyone?

That's cute. I think Oxygen is one of the best sources of inspiration and info for women right now. Tosca Reno (publisher's wife) is 50 and hot as a firecracker. http://www.toscareno.com/presskit/pictures.html She's the real deal, but I resent that fitness publications alter their images. I saw a documentary on it and it's unreal what they do to pics of both men and women. I understand the need to fool the public when it comes to the beauty/make-up/fashion business, but come ON. We are supposed to be all about authenticity. Hard bodies don't come from a bottle or nearly everyone would have one. One of the Kardashian girls did a photo shoot and some of her unretouched photos hit the net. Lots of cellulite, even on her upper arms (and she's a young'un, you know.) Anyway, she was interviewed about it and said "hey, I own it. I have celulite and guess what? Most women do, unless they are fitness freaks, which I'm not." She went on to make a very strong point about the fakeness of advertising photography. Tim, do you work out at home or a gym? |

I think both of them are highly attractive. Ever since the first time I saw Kim kardashian I thought she had a beautiful face. Actually, she had a great body too before she got the butt implants. She's curvy which can be very sexy..even with cellulite. Thing is she came right out and said she's not into fitness, which means there's no telling what she's going to look like in 5 or 10 years. Tosca Rino is my kind of girl though. She looks like she might be the kind that likes to be rough. I love girls that put up a fight. Plus she looks like this: http://www.toscareno.com/gallery7.html http://www.toscareno.com/gallery2.html http://www.toscareno.com/gallery6.html (my favorite) It's going to be fun to see how you progress. You have a more feminine hourglass shape than she does which is going to mesh really well with that kind of muscularity. ============ Quoting from smiling1: ============= |
