I'm trying to lose weight and am also lifting weights. I keep weighing myself but have not lost a single pound in one month. Is it logical to ass-u-me that, possibly, I AM losing fat and also gaining muscle mass? How much heavier is muscle by volume than fat?

You most likely gain weight at first in muscle. Muscle always weighs mor than fat! So as a rul of thumb say 1 pound of muscle is = to 2 of fat(correct me If I am wrong).

Muscle is actually a little heavier than fat (because of its density). On top of weighing yourself, measure your bodyfat %. If you haven't been losing weight and your goal is to, then maybe you need to tweak your diet a bit and increase your cardio.

On the other hand, you could be losing fat and gaining some mass. That's where the bodyfat % measurement comes in.

Throw out the darn scale and start to measure yourself.
How big our your biceps, waist, legs etc How do you feel in your clothes?.....

Go by the way your clothes fit. That is the real test. I use the scale, but only as a guideline, not as a goal.

Take measurements every few weeks to gauge your progress. Measure your waist, buttocks, biceps, chest and thighs.
