Hi All, I am 26 yrs old and my wt is 152 lb. I started going to gym just 2 months back before that i used to do light exercise and running(not much) but now i am interested in body building. I am new to this site and I have signed up for Gain Muscle Mass and size Training(Exercise programm) and Increase Muscle Mass(Nutritional Goal). I am going to start this programm from coming monday. I have little fat on belly and i want to remove that during this programm. i have also signed for 12 wks abs programm. Now i am confused whether the programm i have selected is correct for me or not. Since i want to remove fat, shall i go for General Progression Training(Exercise prog) first or i can start with this. also how much cadio i should do with whatever programm i am going for. Also i want to build muscles but i don't wanna gain much wt. Please suggest
..Amit

Amit - Different opinions on this one. You can (not easily) lose fat and put on muscle but most folks opt for gaining some muscle mass first then cutting it down for definition. It's hard to go on a cut and get good results if you don't have the lean mass to start with.

Mikecharleston is right. It can be very diificult to put muscle on and lose fat at the same time.

You can do cardio, just keep it to about 3 days a week. Once you reach your desired mass, then you can concentrate on cutting down. When you add muscle, you will burn more calories per day so you may notice a slight decrease in fat, but since you are going for mass, don't be discouraged if you do gain a little fat. You can easily burn it wonce you start cutting down because you will have more muscle to aid in this process.

Actually, the cardio will be counterproductive if you are aiming to gain mass. Limit your cardio: minimum to none. You'll get your chance to do much cardio when you are ready to cut.

Thanks lisa. As you said after reaching the desired mass we can concentrate on cutting down. I was just curious to know what do u mean by cutting down.. Does it mean removing fats by doing cardio ???. How cutting phase is different from doing normal workout and cardio. Amit

When gaining mass, you can do cardio, just minimal, like Robert said, by keeping your heartrate at about 65%. You won't burn into the muscle as much.
