I was just wondering what the differance between a protien supplement and a weight gainer supplement..?

Protein shakes are usually just that: Protein. A weight gainer shake has protein, but also fat and carbs. Weight gainer shakes are good for bulking-up, but if you're trying to get lean they won't help you much because they're usually much higher in calories than a straight-up protein drink.
I take a whey protein shake only to keep my protein up without breaking my calories for the day.

So if I wanted to gain weight I would take something like monster milk to do so?

You could take monster milk, or better would be to eat as much, and as cleanly as possible while bulking up.
