Stevia as a sugar subsitute

Stevia (aka sweet leaf) is derived from the sunflower family, native to sub tropical and tropical South and Central America.

As a sweetener it has 300x the sweetness of sugar.

Medical research has shown possible benefits of treating obesity and high blood pressure with stevia because it is non caloric and it has negligible effects on blood sugar.

Japan has safely used stevia for over 30 years.

Stevia is very sweet and it has its own distinct taste.

If you use the liquid form start with 2-4 drops in a 16oz/500ml drink.

You can find stevia in health food stores and some grocery chain stores.

If you are using a non-food sugar substitute, (Splenda, etc.), you should give stevia a try, it is certainly much better for your health.

Like any food, anything in excess is not good for us, moderation is the key.

Check it out next time you are at the grocery store.
