It is simple. You have to eat fewer calories than you can burn, so you can burn the fat that covers the abs.

As lewdog has explained loosing the fat cavering the abs seem to be very difficult for most. I work my abs a lot I can feel them but a long way from seeing them still have tooo much body fat hidding them so yes eat less than you are burning to burn away the stored fat. If you have little stored fat it comes down to working your abs.

Noooo problemo, you can get strong and very muscular but keep your fat (like many powerlifters -no offense thou!!!)
BUT if you want to SHOW your muscles you'll need to loose the fat.
The bugger is only that it's the LAST fat which causes the biggest difficulty to loose......

On that note, in all honesty, do y'all think it's a bit of a strain on your overall health to bring your bodyfat down far enough to clearly see your sixpack? I mean, to be totally cut and defined it seems you have to get your bodyfat down to like 10% or less.......or am I totally wrong?

That seems like a really good point bretto. Even though I'm not any authority on anything here. :P
I heard that for men, the last fat you lose is the stuff over your abs. For women its thighs. I think your body burns fat in a certain order, and I heard that the first fat you lose is on your face. It's all about evolution...
