Hi, I'm new to ft and to working out in general. I'm 19 and look pretty good as it is, but I'm really out of shape. I can barely run a mile without collapsing. It's pathetic I know, but I'm working on it!
Anyway, whenever I do run, or do any exercise like that, my face gets really red, and it stays red for like 30 min after I've stopped exercising. My question is, will this stop happening and go away once I get more in shape? Or is something wrong? Or is it just here to stay? I don't like it, it's embarrassing to be doing a fairly light workout (compared to the other people there) but look like I've just run a marathon...
Anyone know? I would appreciate your advice!
M

Does it hurt you?
I wouldn't worry about it too much. You'll be less exhausted when you get in better shape though.

I used to get super red (my mom said it was my thin Irish skin)in high school when I ran and I was super out of shape. Now that I am more fit, I find that I don't get as red, maybe a little pinker than most, but it seems to go away quicker too as my recovery period has shortened. It should lessen the fitter you become. And, welcome to FT. It's a great community! ============

Philia2: It doesn't really hurt, but I do get really tired and kind of nauseous, even though I had't eaten anything. I'm hoping that's just a part of being out of shape and I'll get over it as I progress.
Metraa: I have olive/tannish skin. :P I do have a very slow recovery period, so if the flushed look is a part of that, I'm hoping it'll diminish like yours has. :)
Thanks to you both! :)

Hi stereohi, I think it is pretty normal to get redish in the face when you are just starting out my suggestion to you is to concentrate on your breathing I have found very few people breath properly when excercising it really takes practice and also you may be pushing your self a little to hard to start off. Like Nina mentioned your general health any blood pressure problems or chest pains or numness. Considering your age most likely it is just being out of shape. Hell I still get a little red in the face after a good cardio work out, usually I can eliminate it by breating there again an important part of the routine.

Thanks Sempai. :) I was wondering if breathing had something to do with it. What is the correct way?
