Build chest muscle without a spotter?

How can I build my chest muscles without a spotter? I work out at home, and have good equipment, but no spotter, so I never max out and have to stop when I feel I may not be able to do another rep completely. Suggestions?

Maxing out has little to do with building chest muscle. WHat you are doing will work it takes time....maybe it is time to change your style.....

I don't do push ups because Ive been told it only "builds endurance" and has no impact on actual strength. I stick to barbell presses and DB presses, with a machine exercise (flies) thrown in sometimes at the end. Should I be doing pushups too?

Any exercise buols endurance. Push ups target chest muscles and also use triceps. Nothing wrong with body weight exercises. Machine assisted lifts also are a good start to lead you to chin ups.
