Well just started getting into the fitness habit and I would really like to know what methods are the best...I have ALOT of body fat and even losing 40lbs would be a fantastic effort for me...As the title suggests I weigh 293 lbs and im just wondering would lifting weights help me lose weight? Also is it more beneficial to work on one area or go around all the different weights such as move from bicep curls to something that works your shoulders?

I have a friend who needs to put mass on and he keeps telling me what he thinks is best yet my needs are completle different to his as I need to lose weight....I attempted HIIT last week and managed it for 10 minutes, I also feel like I could cycle 20 miles a day...I have rubbish form when it comes to bench pressing and really do not enjoy it at all however I have no idea how neccesary a bench press is if I am lifting on mechanical weights.

Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks...Oh and I have my diet sorted out now as well, Plenty of protein, carbs for energy, fruit etc....

Well I'm just starting out on my fitness journey as well but I have done some research and actually found a really helpful book at my local library but I can't remember the name right now. Anyways the best way to workout for weight loss is:

- make sure that you warm up properly 10-15mins should be good
- always start by working out the main muscle groups first. Especially when just beginning you want to work as many muscles as possible, not only will this give the whole body a workout (which is what you need to do to see real weight loss) but it will help prevent injury. For example, you will want to work out both the upper and lower back before you focus on working out your deltoids or lats in particular because then you are working out all the muscles in the back including the support muscles thus preventing you from accidentally pulling, straining, or tearing those muscles because they were to weak to support the amount of strain you were giving them and this will keep you from over developing certain muscles. (I hope I explained that well enough) If you do have 'problem areas' you want to take care of you can work them out after you have warmed up the back with the first exercises.
- yes, making sure to workout all parts of the body is best
- make sure that you give yourself someday off to recover in between weight lifting so your body has time to recover, this is when your body will start adding muscle.
- this is a good rule of thumb also: light weights with many repetitions will help you lose weight, heavier weights with less repetitions will create mass
- And make sure that as time goes on that you keep increasing the intensity (and weight on a lesser scale) of your workouts.
- Also variation is the spice of life and will keep your body from reaching a plateau as soon and keep you more interested

I hope that this will help you on your journey.
