Question for you folks. I've worked out in commericial gyms for years, where the benches have been solid and flat. Recently I purchased a home gym which is designed such that it's not a solid flat bench, but rather has somewhat of about a 2-3 inch gap between what I'll call the main back support and the seat so that you can adjust it to an incline. I can't quite seem to get comfortable in my positioning. Unsure if my lower back should be right where the gap is since usually by nature you'll get a little bit of a back arch anyways when benching, or if I should try to make sure my rear end is winding up there so that I get maximum back support. The product is the Powertec-Inc Olympic bench by the way if that helps if anyoen is familiar with it or has seen it... Thanks all!
i know exactly which one you're talking about. i could personally never get comfortable on them to do bench presses. but in regards to your question, i would say putting your butt over the opening is the best way to anchor your stability. if you look at my profile, the pic on the left is of strong man anthony clark doing a strength demo on a bench identical to yours, and you will see that his lower back is over the bench, not the opening. hope that helps........
