Hey guys I'm really excited to try to get in shape and be happier with my life. My question is that if I want to incorporate running/cardio into my workout routine, what is the best way to start? I figured I'd start with running about a mile a day, three days a week and increase by about a half mile every week.
Thats not a bad plan, granted once you get to so many miles per session you may want to find a place you'r comfortable with to stop at. The three days a week is good, keep in mind though without using advanced footwear, running is very strenuous on your knees, and ankles especially. You may want to work in more cardio just to keep your heart rate up, and get into proper breathing which will increase your endurance for distance running. The increased muscle tone from this will help cut down on injuries from running as well. I think you'll find you can run as far as you want to if you can maintai good breathing, actually hitting muscle failure from running is very difficult.
