I am at a plateau but I have some ideas!

I know hittin a plateau is common. I decided to change my diet to more lean protein and fresh veggies and cut back on my bread and pasta intake. I am also eating more meals a day to boost my metabolism. My first question is does anyone have any ideas on breakfast meals? I am on a budget with my finances and I dont want to spend too much money because I have a son who also needs to eat. My second question is should I keep doing cardio? I do about 40 minutes of cardio 3-5 times a week as well as lift weights. I really like doin both in my workout routine but is it necessary?
