First off, my goal is not to get huge mussles. Getting strong, however, is a goal. I am a martial artist, I do Tae Kwon Do and Capoeira, I just started Capoeira about a month ago and my upper body is woefully underpowered. My sports in the past were things like soccer and all leg related sports. I train Monday-Saturday at night in one or both arts. My goals are primarly weight loss, and upper body strength. Currently I do not weight train, however I do have access to both freeweights and machines (hurrah for college). I would like some advice in what kind of things I can do to accomplish both of the goals. My curent plan was to weight train 2x - 3x a week in the mornings, and keep my martial arts at night, which I would think would be considered cardio. I would also like advice on suppliments since I am 100% clueless about that.

Hi there Killerbunny, Welcome aboard. Weight training is great for Martial Arts I study Shotokan Karate & Jujitsu & weapons (various)Also internal energy. The cardio you will get from Martial arts will be very intence and good for you. You weight training should be the same. You mention you train Sat. and Monday if those are the only days available fine, if not spread them out more maybe another day or two in between if you can. and work on your weights in between your Martial Arts training. One thing you will find as you increase your muscle mass you will require more time for stretching before and after you train in Martial Arts. As far as sups go to start out why not try natural at first if you can, a good multi vitamin is fine. Diet will do great things for you remember your carbs before Martial Arts training about an hour and half to two hours before then afterward some protein, lots of water. Good luck
