My wife and I are just getting started working out. I used to work out, but she has not. I like the program but what how much weight should we use for each rep. Should it be a percentage of our max. Please help.

Start with a tolerable level, a weight that you are comfortable with. Its different for everybody. If you go to heavy, you might injure something.
Hope this helps.

Damn, I have the perfect link for you but I'm in the process of moving and my other computer (with the link) is packed up! Doing some research I found that most report that you should be able to do 8-12 reps of the MAX amount of weight you can lift. So, I would say take the MAX then actually start lifting 70% of it for your workouts. This is all from memory so hopefully someone else can give you better advice.
Before learning this, I just started with whatever I could complete the full reps with, then ended up increasing them quite a bit in the next couple weeks. After about 3 weeks I 'settled in' and now know what I should shoot for on each exercise.
