im a beginner and im supposed to lift light weights and do some 20 reps instead what i did was added some weight and 10 reps is that possible. which one works better coz i really need to gain muscle..

Rather than ignore your program, if you don't want to start at the beginners level just change your selection criteria. Part of the rational for beginners programs are to get your muscles into condition to take heavier intensity as you progress. Plus, many people start out doing more than they're physically capable of and they don't stick with it.

and remember that those 20 reps were just for warmup, so you really ought not skip out on them

Getting your muscles to adapt to new stimulus is what lifting is all about. Personally I don't like high rep programs and I don't get great results with them because my muscles are mostly fast twitch. I personally don't think the high rep intro is NECESSARY for beginners. I think that a high rep intro week can add an interesting tilt to anyone's program as what is called a shock microcycle. So you don't NEED to do the high rep work, but it's good to throw it in their sometimes.
