Hi When i'm doing tricep extensions on my left arm (or two arm tricep extensions), if i'm using a heavier weight, or beginning to fail on a set, my the joint between my upper arm and shoulder gives me trouble, it's hard to explain, but its really uncomfortable, and i fear it could inhibit my progress. Has anyone heard of anything like this before or know what to do?? Thanks Peter

i don't really do much shoulder work, but it's not a muscular discomfort, it's in the joint

I was going to say it might be a bout of bursitis...but at your young age its highly impossible. This might sound rediculous but give it some attention, when you fall asleep do you sleep on your arm? If you do you are cutting off the blood supply to the are, so take a look at that, and also, what is the quality of your pillow? If it is way to soft and not giving you the proper suppoort, you are laying on your shoulder if you sleep on your side. Just my opinion.

When i sleep, i generally sleep on my right shoulder, but it's my left shoulder that the problem is in. It's not really an issue at the moment, but i think when i move up to higher weights it will be. I'm joining a proper gym, and should be starting on monday, so i'll be able to do a full body workout.

I would say a simple fix is don't do that exercise! Substitute another. There are tons of tricep exercises you can do. For instance close grip benches and tricep cable pushdowns. Sometimes you have to work around an injury for a bit. Get some Glucosimine/Chondroiton type stuff for the joints.
