Does anyone have any suggestions on getting over a weight loss plateau. I walk 1/2 hour a day, 4 days a week, weight train 4 days a week, and eat healthy everyday and am stuck at 132lbs. I was doibg good the first 5 weeks, I lost 2 lbs per week then stopped. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Increase the intensity of your cardio. Walking 1/2 hour per day is no longer enough. Try a low impact exercise like an exercise bike or elliptical trainer (hopefully you belong to a gym or fitness center). If not, you can try running for 1/2 hour. Your goal is to increase your heart rate for a sustained period of time. Preferrably, you should do this early in the AM (before breakfast) so that your body uses stored fat as its fuel source for this activity. Of course, continue with the diet and weight training.

Good luck!

Some of your problem might be in your diet. It sounds to me like your metabolism has slowed down. Can't tell from what you posted but you may need to increase the number of times you eat. Your body has sensed that it's starving and your metaolism has slowed down. Don't increase your calorie intake but spread it out over the whole day. Make sure you get some good protein with carbs at every meal. I'm no expert but those are the basics and work for most people.

High Intensity Interval Training is what you need. This for around 20 mins 3-4 days a week.
Secondly, why not give us your diet so we can give you some suggestions?

We are here to help you, and I'm sure that we can break your plateau.

Thanks,

My diet is pretty basic, at least I think so. Cereal and Juice for breakfast, banana for a mid morning snack, Turkey on wheat with some pretzels for lunch. Maybe a small salad mid afternoon, and for dinner chicken, with mushrooms and brocoli mixed with rice. Chicken fresh frozen and cooked on a forman grille.

Hope you can help

I don't belong to a gym, I have a treadmill, bench and cable pully machine along with free weights in my house. I have tried to incline the treadmill to build my heart rate back up.
Thanks

I'm also finding it hard to get everything I need in my diet. I've been pretty good for the last couple of weeks, but now eating seems like a chore and it's hard for me to eat everything I need to. If I never see another egg white again, I would think I had died and gone to heaven. I know my solution would be to maybe start cooking or something, but I dislike cooking and I'm not sure how to make things that I might actually eat without using butter or oil or something fattening like that. I am also a lacto-ovo vegetarian (just as part of FYI). Anybody got a suggestion or some encouraging words?

Well yes, one of the golden keys to weight loss IS to eat several times daily. Why? cause it speeds up our metabolism and also gives all the necessairy nutritions to our muscles to build and become stronger with.
I eat 7 times daily. Often when I'm hungry I want to eat bigger meals but I know that I shouldn't since then I will not be hungry again 2-3 hours after. It's a question about discipline I guess. One gets use to it.
When I'm NOT hungry I still force myself to drink a small protein shake when it's time to have a meal.

About your diet shaff, you should include some proteins in the mornings and mid afternoons.

Lumina, you can eat low fat cottage cheese and tofu + beans to get your proteins. I have been vegetarien and weight training for years but it's not before I started to get enough proteins in my diet that I saw the changes on my body. To shape your body you need proteins. It's a fact.

I eat around 10 egg whites, 3 protein shakes and a little chicken daily. This is my source of proteins, and it works for me.

Your diet is pretty basic but for a short time there are a few things I would change to kick up the fat burning process.
Switch from Cereal to Rolled or Steel Cut Oatmeal (no instant)
Juice replace with a small piece of fruit like Grapefruit
Banana for a mid morning snack ok but ADD 10 almonds
SKIP the pretzels for lunch and add a tomato
Hope that helps.

Thanks, for everyones advise. I am going to try a little bit of everything and hope something happens. I do have another questions of two. Should I work out in the morning or does it not matter, and is there a number of carbs I should be staying under or at to lose weight.?

The best time to do cardio exercises is in the morning...on an empty stomach. As far as the number of carbs, check out ft's nutrition guide. Your recommended daily intake of protein, carbs and fats are revealed based on the goals you have stated when you signed up.

I have to say that I agree most with Philia. Try adding some HIIT to your workouts. Cardio may no longer be enough
