A bit embarrassing but here goes-
When I am running etc I sweat absolute buckets! If I have a spinning class, there's always tons of sweat under my bike at the end- and that's even with me using a towel to wipe myself down regularly as well!
Is this normal? None of the other women seem to sweat as much as me- I seem to sweat as much as the men!

I do drink an awful lot of water (at least 3 litres per day- I'm not sure what that is in American)so I'm never dehydrated (my urine is always clear/pale), I just wonder if it's usual to sweat this much.

I'd be interested to hear your comments/advice. Thanks!

No need to post in more than one place.

To answer your question, that is normal. When I was overweight (about 20% bodyfat), I sweated constantly. I would sweat just after a short walk. Now, I don't sweat as much...even after a grueling workout.

I think in time the amount you sweat will decrease as you get leaner and your body gets accustomed to your exercise routine. Continue to drink lots of water.

But I'm not overweight anymore! (5ft 1", 122lb, BMI 23) If anything, I seem to be seating MORE as I get fitter.

I won't worry about it- I'll just keep on with the water and mopping up everywhere I go!

GymKitten, you also have to realize that some people's metabolism causes their body temperature to remain high. The body combats this by cooling itself through sweating. Unless you suffer from a heart disease/illness, this should be normal. If you feel something is horribly wrong, you should consult your physician.

Good luck!

P.S. - To me, there's nothing more sexy than a woman who can appreciate the sweat from an intense workout! ;-)

Sweating is very normal especially if you are well hydrated. This is your body's way to keep you cool. I sweat a lot more know that I am in better shape. I used to go for a run a barely break a sweat. Now I start sweating during a warm up session. I wouldn't start to worry unless you STOP sweating.

Don't worry about it, just make sure of drinking enough water (and also get the needed sodium and potassium).
Somebody sweats more than someone else. We are all different.

Gymkitten, I wouldn't be too concerned. I'm soaked by the end of a spinning class or running aswell. Just remember to follow Philia's advice and get enough sodium and potassium after your workout. When I first started working out, I started feeling dizzy and faint after my workouts, it turns out that I was suffering from postural hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure, when you stand up or make sudden movements) because of all the fluid that I lost during my workout by sweating.

Gymkitten,
I too have noticed an increase in sweating. I am not sure what the weather is like where you live but it sure is hot here in VA.
I would be more concerned with while you work out and you stop sweating. This leads to heat exhaustion (cold, clammy skin, shivering) and also heat stroke (dry, hot skin).

And as rpacheco hinted at a lot of men like nothing better than an in shape sweaty sexy woman. :)

:) Melissa

It's Sunday morning at 8.20am and I have just finished another HIIT. It's not that warm here yet, but woow this morning I just continued to sweat (I sweat a lot more when doing HIIT than slow steady cardio....).

It's okey, just drinking more and I'll take a nice shower before opening the gym at 10am.

About the smell, well clean people don't normally smell bad when they sweat, but dirty people do. That's a fact and honestly it's rather disgusting. Nooooooo fun to have smelly bombs in my gym!!!

I'm very smelly everytime I run, no matter whether I just rolled out of bed or if I've taken a shower before, I think it just depends on the person.

The smell only last for a little while. Once your done working out, you can shower and smell all fresh again. I don't think most people care that we smell while working out as they as they don't pass out....lol. Seriously, everyone smells when they sweat and it doesn't bother me when it is for as reason such as working out or working really hard when it is hot outside.
