Here is the problem....my wife had a baby on sept 24...she lost almost all the weight..she is a heavier women to begin with. Anyway, she like me is wanting to loose some weight. That is good but she refuses to lift weights. She says and I know this toi be true that she is just to tired. She has low iron and is on iron pills right now. She knows from my gains and losses that I know how to help her. But she once lost a lot of weight using dexatrim, and is wanting to use it again. I told her that it is not needed just that she needs to start lifting and doing some cardio. Her other problem is that she hates most protein that I can cook for her. At most she will eat a little chicken breast or steak. But will do that only a couple of times a week. Her favorite foods are spuds pasta and more carbs. She does not eat most veges and I can not get her to do so...any advice or help?

Does she like beans mutt? I think dark beans like kidney beans, black beans, etc. have iron as well. Great source of energy giving protein too. Good luck Mutt and keep after her bud, albiet diplomatically, you're doing her a favor with your concern.

The only beans she will eat are baked beans and those beans in the minestrone soup at the Olive garden.

lol. Well perhaps if she doesn't eat all her food at the supper table, she should go straight to her room. hehe I'm not sure of the iron content of baked beans. Perhaps someone has a good breakdown of the iron content of food somewhere. Unfortunately, red meats, chicken, pork are good sources of iron, which she doesn't seem to be crazy about. Cereal is another good source of iron mutt. I believe "Total" may have 100% of the daily recommended amount of of many vitamins and minerals. Would she like that?

Good luck.

Can you invite her to do some 'hidden' exercise with you? Take her out dancing, or go for a walk with the baby in the evening, is there an exercise class she'd be interested in? I used to avoid any kind of exercise that looked like exercise, but you can often get moving without it feeling like work. The general rule, as I've been told, is that the darker the meat, the higher it is in iron--try wild meat like bison, very lean and good for women. Also, cooking in a cast iron pan will allow the food to absorb a little of the iron. I know that you care about your wife and want her to feel good about herself. Good luck.

Yeah she likes to swim....the down side is the only gym that has a pool is way to expensive for us right now. Even the YMCAs are way to much money right now. She like tae bo and if I can get her energy levels up she will do it with me. I am trying hard...

My wife is the same way after 3 kids. I don't nag her as that will only make things worse. She gets the cardio done at the gym, she won't touch dumbells but she uses the spek machines. I bought some dumbells for the house and she (on her own) started using them. I caught her with ft open a couple of times. She has about 50lbs to lose and she started sheding. Hey Mutt if she wants to email my wife let me know.

Thanks, but I do not want to let her know that I have been talking about it as of yet......She is a very private person. I just want her to be happy. The weight issue is not a big thing for me at all. But I know that it bothers her some and that since she was born without cartliage in her knees and they are mis aligned she needs to keep it down. Thanks for all the help.

I don't know how it is where you live, but here there's lots of community pools that offer lane swimming for a buck or two, or a punch card for several uses that is pretty inexpensive. I'm a single college student living alone, I can completely understand about budgeting, I have only one tv channel because I decided to forgo cable and get a gym pass. I admire the way you care about your wife's health, you two are lucky to have one another.

Mutt, doesn't the wife get some motivation from watching you get in shape? My g/f gets motivated by me cuz I'm so motivated myself. She claims to like the results I'm getting, especially when we.. errr, never mind. lol Anyway, you're making good gains right? Tell her to take a good look at ya, then tell her "this could be you" as far as the weight lose, etc. Naturally, she'll have some sort of smartarse remark but, hey, that should still give her some motivation to keep up her program.
Good luck buddy.

UPDATE.....she calle dme here at work and started to ask about protein and carbs and such. Long story short...she wants to raise the protein and cut the carbs out al most to the point of atkins style....I am so excited cause that is the last block on my gains as well. I work till 8 we eat at 830 or so and usually it is loaded with fries, mashed potatos, bread, pasta. Well she wants to eat nothing but protein after 6 or so and keep the carbs low during the day. Praise the LORD! Finally she saw the light.
