I am 44 years old and I have removed 42 pounds of fat since APril 2002. Currently workout weights/cardio 5 days a week. My body fat is 14.6% but it appears that most of my fat is laying on my abs! My shape appears to be like that of a ruler. Have much can this be altered? I would love to have a waist and to see the abs I know I must have. There is no fat on my arms and they have been getting bigger! Which is nice. My waist has not getten any smaller for the past 3 months - since I have been working out, but perhaps tending to get thicker! My torso is on the short side and my arms and legs are on the long side. My butt is coming back slowly, my shoulders are an inch wider and my thighs bulk-up quickly.

I don't care for my ruler like torso, and I want to see my abs. Good news is that I think I see an appearance on the line of demarcation from my chest to my navel separating my left and right halves. What is a mother of 4 to do? I will try to get pictures up for you to see.

Will cutting gels help with the abs?

Well, first off forget the cutting gels. They do not work, and are a scam. That being said, diet holds the key to your abs showing. Fat tends to hang in there around the midsection until the very end. It is not unusual to have very little fat on the arms and shoulders, but still have that layer over the abs. In order for them to show, you will most probably have to give up the idea of much more muscle gain, due to diet(cutting calories) being what makes your abs show. Eat a high protein, lower carb diet, keep with the weights, and increase cardio somewhat for extra calorie expenditure. The bottom line is diet! Abs are probably 80% diet. You can work them forever, but if your diet isn't correct, you can actually end up looking fatter due to the new ab muscle pushing out the fat even farther. Good luck to you.
