it depends on what fitness goals you have set. We would need to have more info in order to assist you. Also, can you please fill out your profile so we can get to know you better and help you better.
as a general rule it is good to get some type of cardio in at least three times a week.

Is it "bad" to do cardio *more* than 3 times a week??
Does your body need a rest every other day??

no it's not bad, there are different level of cardio you can do, you can overdo it though. You should at least have one or two days rest a week from cardio.

Is running on a treadmill better than fast walking... How can I tell if the cardio exercises that I am doing right now is too much?
Thanks!

I would do one hour of cardio for 5-6 days per week when I lost all my weight, plus weight train for about 45-60 mintunes 5-6 days per week. I lost a lot of body fat and gained a lot of strength and muscle.

Sorry to add on ANOTHER question! Hopefully it won't make this subject even more confusing for anyone, but...=)
*Are you going to build different muscles/accomplish different goals if you spend all of your cardio time running versus walking??*
More specifically/personally, I am doing cardio on a treadmill probably 4-5 times a week, for roughly 45-60 minutes per session. When I still to this schedule/routine, I walk at a relatively fast pace.
This past week, I have been trying out the HIIT (or was it HITT??!! ugg, i can't remember!) program, and I've only been doing it 3-4 times a week, for roughly 20 minutes per session. But, the HIIT program is built around running, but for a shorter time period (than what i had been doing before when I had only been walking at a fast pace tempo).
I guess my question is, what type of results should i expect for the two different routines??

While you can lose weight and fat on the 45 minute runs, its more of building endurance. The HIIT is specially targeted to boost your metabolism, therefore even after you have done your 20 minute HIIT, your body is continuing to burn fat throughout the day, night, etc. Also, just an extra thought, HIITs are not necessarily based around running, you can apply them to any cardio machine if wanted such as rotary bicycles, ellipticals, rowing machines, stair steppers, also just plain walking at different paces as well. It is good to mix them around a bit as well.

Can you suggest a good HIIT routine that I can use? Does HIIT burn more calories?
