I know that I keep plugging the benefits of glucosimine and chondroitin sulfates but it's only because it really has helped me with some of the pain I had. Osteoarthritis is caused by the normal wear on joints combined with high levels of certain enzymes which inhibit the bodies ability to repair cartilage as we age, old injuries to joints may speed the process. There seems to be no correlation between the amount of wear and the amount of pain experienced by the person with this condition. The body uses/produces glucosimine and chrondroitin sulfates in building and repair of joints. The bodies ability to make it's own is decreased with age. Supplementation with these molecules may slow the loss of cartilage by pumping more catilage building nutrients into the body. |

In a study I read about which was conducted in Europe, the pain relieving effects of glucosimine and ibuprofen were compared using 200 people suffering from osteoarthitis of the knee. They were given either 400mg ibuprofen or 500mg glucosimine twice a day. The folks on the ibu got immediate relief but 35% complained of side effects. The glucosimine group took longer (2 weeks the study said)but got relief equal to the ibu group. Often doctors recommend asprin, or ibuprofen to control the pain, but what they don't tell you is that taking these over the counter pain remedies can actually speed the deteriortion of the cartilage in joints. |

Isn't old age a B.... If it doesn't quit it slows down so slow it's worthless anyway. I just got arthur in my thumb joints, got some shots , feel better but I know it'll come back. I have 4 herniated disc's in my back and I'm just waiting for it to go their but I hope I'm 100 by then. What is the brand name of these sulfates? If I get bad enough maybe I'll try them. |

I'm starting to get the idea that it is indeed a B****! All I can say is. FIGHT LIKE HELL!! Glucosimine hydrochloride, glucosimine sulfate and chrondroitin sulfate. There are many name brands. If you have a Sams' Club available thats where I've found the best deal. Members' Mark is their house brand, and it's good quality. Other than that go to the pharacist at your grocery store and ask him about it. Look for one that is enexpensive and gives 1.2grams of chrondroitin and 1.5 grams glucosimine per pill taken 3 times a day to start. you can back off to 1 or 2 pills a day after a couple of months if that gives you good results. Don't wait till it gets worse to start this. It is preventitive. |

If this supplement were made when you and I were young men and we'd started it then we might not have the pain now. |

It sounds like you have a lot of knowledge in supplements. I was given a new one put out by EAS or anyway I think it's new. Its called Methoxy factor. It's supposed to help with weight loss and increase muscle mass. Do you have any info ? |

It's more like I have alot of books on supplements and spend time looking for info on the supplements I hear about. It can be very frustrating. Sometimes (well alot of the time actually) I'll do my homework and think I have a concept pinned down, and the some doctor or research team comes along and refutes everything I thought I just learned. Right now there seems to be alot of comititiom between the medical community and the supplement community. It's almost like they're trying to make it hard for the consumer to tell what's real from whats all smoke and mirrors! |

Any way Methoxyfactor by EAS is a new product. The compound that it's based on, however has been on the market for a little over a year. A company called Cytodine came out with Methoxy-Pro a while back, but I'm not sure they were the first. The compound is called 5-methyl 7-methoxy-isoflavone. I looked high and low for studies to back up the claims they made, but came up virtually empty handed as far as data goes. Many swear it works. I tried the Methoxy-Pro for a few weeks and gained a little muscle and a bit of fat. Then I switched to another methoxy based product which I used for a month but saw no improvement. |
