Hi, my name is Jason, and I am trying to get into West Point. The problem is that for the physical testing, I am not even near ready for those standards. I need help doing dips, pullups, situps and pushups. How do I increase my reps at a faster rate? Or how do I go about with the workouts, do I just do those above workouts or do I add some weight lifting, and aerobics along with it. I really need help with this. I can probably do 15 pushups, need to do 80, 20 situps, need to do 80, 1-2 pullups need to do 20. Any advice would be grateful, I am a desperate man.

Welcome Jason. You should really concentrate on upper body strength. The only way to get better at something is to do it. Just keep practicing and add weight training to your daily routine about 5 times per week and you should see good results. For strength you want to do heavy weight.low reps. Try the Progressive Gains program on FT and you will see some great strenght biuld. Good luck and hope you meet your goals. Also there is a site that will help with a military PFT test. You can try this and see if it helps.
www.fitrex.com It should help with at least the pullups and situps.

Welcome to ft! Okay...if you want to increase the number of pushups, situps, etc. you'll need to do 2 things:
1) Weight training - 4x per week, concentrating on chest, arms/forearms and shoulders. Sign up for ft's 8 or 12-week mass program. 2) Pushups, situps and pullups - 3x per week (4 sets of each; do as many reps as you can until failure).
In about 3-4 weeks, you should see a lot of improvement! Good luck...

I had a similar problem, but instead of West point, it was the football team. Even though the requirements weren't as high as West point's, they were still hard for me to reach. For pushups i started out doing incline pushups on my staircase on about the fifth step from the bottom. When ever i felt the step i was on was too easy i would move down a step. Soon enough i was doing flat pushups and many at a time. For situps i would do the most i can do and then everyday after that i did one more then the day before. For pull-ups, i would do as many as i can until failure and then i would have my friend spot me a little until i completed the required amount. I didn't have to do dips but you can do the same thing i did for pull-ups for dips. Good luck!
