hi i am a male 16 year old high school student. i have been pretty small my whole life so i am trying to gain weight and build muscles, as well as get in better over all shape...right now i am 5' 8" ish and 125lbs.
before i came to this site this is what i have been doing to exercise: each day i walk for 20min then run for 20min. ( I first started by just walking for 20min and have built up the running part). Anyways, after reading this site I have one of the personalized work out schedules for building muscles. my question is since i am in relatively bad shape, should i focus more on aerobics for now until i get in better shape and then start lifting or is it ok to start lifting right away following the routine from this web site?
also, my high school's gym is sorta small but we have most of the machines that this web site says i need, though not all of them.
thanks for any advice you might be able to offer me! my goal is to get up to around 140-150lbs and get in shape as well as building muscles...thanks!
j.

thanks for the response. i try to eat a lot of small meals but sometimes i don't have time. lately i have been having fruit and yogurt for breakfast, a sandwiche with an apple or something and milk for lunch, and some fruit in teh afternoon, and another sandwiche or two for dinner. you mentioned doing cardio only 3 times a week. i have been doing it every day, do you think thats too much?

If you want to gain size yes it is too much. I would eat more, and lift a lot! LOL, seriously, keep your sets to the 6-8 rep range and use a weight that allows you to get the 6-8 reps with strain on the last few. And again eat more protein and cut the cardio to 3 times a week.
-------------- IF YOU CAN STILL ITCH YOUR NOSE AFTER ARM DAY, GO DO ANOTHER SET!!!

Throughout high school, I weighed between 130 and 135 pounds, and my height was steady at 5'11". I could bench and squat well over my weight, but I never got bigger. When I turned 21, my body changed and I shot up to 175 pounds. I did nothing to achieve this, it was just part of my growth cycle. Now I'm 26 years old, still 5'11" and weighing in around 165. So don't worry about weight, it will come.
