I have been working out 4-6 days per week. The staff there tells me that I am better off doing weight training to boost my metabolism (trying to lose 65lbs). I have worked out in the past, and feel that I do have sufficient muscle. At 5'4", weighing 195 lbs, I wear a size 16. I try to alternate upper/lower body every other day at the gym. I feel that I need to add cardio, and have been doing what I think is circuit training. I start with 10min. cardio, then perform a set of each exercise I know for upper or lower body(depending on the day), going from one machine right to another. After I have hit each machine, then I do another 10 min. cardio and do it again. When I am finished, I have spent about 75 min. doing 30 min. of cardio and 3 sets of each exercise. Am I doing any good with this?????????

Yes circuit training is basically going from one exercise to the next at a fairly quickly pace. My advice to you is to NOT circuit train, but to workout out ONE body part per day (with circuiting all the time, you're not giving your body enough recuperation time thus prolonging your results.) It may also be time for you to slow down while doing such exercises and go heavier on the weights. Please trust me on this, I got stuck in the circuit training world and wasted alot of hours at the gym with minimal results.
As far as your cardio, aim for 3x per week & use HIIT. If you're going to do cardio on days that you are weight training, then do your weight training first.

Actually, circuit training is training multiple muscle groups in one workout session. This is the opposite of targeted training which only focuses on one muscle group per workout, which is emphasized here at FT.
There are several members who prefers to train using this method.
Good luck!
