Sounds like you want the budget plan. Protein Drinks in powder Form haven't always existed!....make your own protein shakes with Whole or 2 % Milk, some instant powder and Pasterized Egg Product. Throw in some strawberries for flavor.

The best (and natural) way to gain weight is eat like a moose (6-7 meals per day)! You can "invest" in cheap weight gainers but you're also going to get sugars (and fat) and other stuff you may not necessarily want. Besides, have you tasted any of them? You'll need a good blender, too!
Protein supplements are just that. They mainly provide additional protein that you will need to maintain during your weight training program. When it comes to consuming calories, carbohydrates and fat, get them from food sources.
Good luck!

Muscle and Fitness did an article early last year about the cost per gram of protein in food and in supplements. They found that supplements are actually cheaper than eating whole foods. HOWEVER, THERE IS NO SUPPLEMENT THAT CAN BE A TRUE REPLACEMENT FOR WHOLE FOOD!!!! Just don't go by some Myoplex or LeanBody and expect to get all your nutrition from that. If you're skinny, that should be incentive to eat more.

Listen to jbennett. There's no replacing food! Just make sure you vary your foods so you can get your protein from different sources.

And who did this study? The supplement company? HMMMmmmmI am sceptical. Compare the protein powder to a dozen egg whites!!! GOOD protein powder isn't cheap. I know someone who works in a whey process plant. After the first process the whey is sold at a lesser price (not readily digestable by the body) then the cheese by product is triple filtered (takes awhile to do this)so it is more readily digestible. That expensive. If you use the cheap stuff you are not digesting the same amount of protein as is has a lower Bioavailabilty. If you get gas from your protein powders they are cutting you short on the availability of the proteins. So buy the good stuff and use food. Egg whites are a good value for protein. Chicken , tuna, turkey all less per pound than powder!

Do you all think I should eat more protein then carbs because people say that eating too much carbs will get you fat and it will not give you muscle fat. My main goal is to get more weight so I can have more muscle mass and mostly size. I strongly believe I need to gain weight to get muscle.

Steve, you can always refer to your ft Nutrition guide for the proper amount of daily carb, protein and fat intake. There's also a new section at the bottom that shows typical foods and their contents stated above.
One thing to keep in mind however, not eating enough carbs will hinder your body's absorption of protein you consume. Good luck!
