Hmm it's not really the same thing, but if I should choose between protein powder or creatine to build up muscle mass, then it would definitely be the proteins.

Well, I would have to say both! Proteins will help your body grow more fibers to withstand the beating you give it when you work out. However, creatine aids in the recovery process so that you can work out longer. Working out + faster recovery + protein = more muscles faster.
